All about Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan is not with us today, he died at the age of 53. Film director Shoojit sircar had tweeted and gave this shocking news of his death, he tweeted that “My friend you fought and I will always be proud of you”. 

Irrfan Khan was suffering from a neuroendocrine tumor since 2018, he was not well continuously since 2018. He was born on January 07, 1967, in Tonk, Rajasthan.

His father’s name was Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan who was into the Tyre business. His mother’s name was Sayeeda Begum. Since childhood, he was very talented and had an interest in acting.

In 1984 he got a scholarship during his studies in Master of arts from the National School of Drama. This is how he nurtured his acting skills.

He had also done many theatres. He came to Mumbai to show his acting talent and for the break. He gave many auditions in Mumbai but then also he didn’t get any chance in movies and serials initially but he didn’t give up and continued to give auditions.

Then he got a chance in serials like Bharat Ek Khoj, Chanakya, Sara Jahan Mamara, Banegi Apni Baat, etc. He had also worked with K.K. Menon in the popular show on Star Plus Darr.

Although he was showing his acting skills in the serials his motive was to enter the Bollywood industry. In 1988 he finally got a break in the movie Salaam Bombay for the small role but in the final cut, his role was edited and canceled.

He struggled a lot and then also after this for a few years he didn’t get a chance in Bollywood and continued doing theatres.

In 1990 he got a small role in the movie “Ek doctor ki maut” along with another movie “Such a long Journey”. He also got a chance in other movies like Pita, Bada Din, The Goal, The Cloud Door, Purush.

People didn’t notice these movies much and even after working for a long during his time in industry he couldn’t establish his name and place. 

In 2001 he got a role in the movie “The Warrior” this movie was also shown in the International Film Festival. People also appreciated his role in the Movie.

He slowly started becoming popular. In 2003 he also acted in the movie Maqbool which was based on Shakespeare Novel Macbeth.

This movie was not that big blockbuster but everyone appreciated his role in the movie. In 2004 because of his awesome role in the movie Haasil he got a film fare award for the best actor in a negative role.

He then got a lead role in the movie Rog in 2005. This was the phase when his acting career gained pace. In 2007 he got his second film fare award for the movie Metro for a Best supporting role. 

In the same year, he was seen in the Hollywood movie A mighty Heart and The Darjeeling Limited. His role was also appreciated in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

He also got a National film award for this role in the movie Paan Singh Tomar.

He was also seen in the movie Hindi Medium and Qarib Qarib Singlle. The movie  Hindi Medium crossed the 100 crore club and he got a Filmfare award for the best actor. 

Personal Life

He was married to Sutapa Sikdar in 1995 and both have 2 kids and the name 

is Babil and Ayan.
