Introduction to Three-tier Covid-19 Restrictions
With the report of a rise in 19,724 daily cases of Covid-19, with the highest number of cases in England, 16,132, the UK prime minister has imposed three-tier lockdown restrictions for England to tackle the rising number of contagious Covid-19 cases.
England, according to this latest policy, will be split up into three tiers: very high, high, and medium alert areas. Tier 3 indicates a very high alert level where household mixing will be banned along with pubs and bars. People will not be able to meet with other households at all. Mixing at both indoors and outdoors is prohibited.
3% of the UK’s population falls in the circle of tier 3 and 28% in tier 2 that comes in a high alert level where indoor household mixing is banned. Outdoor meetings can happen subject to the rule of six, which means a gathering of no more than six people.
Likewise, tire 1 includes a major area of England where people subject to the rule of six can gather indoors and outdoors,
Sports activities are allowed in an organized way, pubs are open until 10 pm, and wedding ceremonies are permitted with no more than 15 attendees.
Businesses will continue to operate in tier 1 as long as they are strictly following the secure Covid-19 guidelines like wearing masks, proper sanitizing, and screening.
The new guidelines proposed by the prime minister have stated that people can travel from and in the tier and tier 2 regions, but they are advised against travel in and out of tier 3 areas unless it is urgent. What is it like going on holiday if you are in tier 1, tier 2 or tier 3 lockdown?
Can you go on holiday if you are in a tier 2 lockdown?
If you live in a city that falls under the tier 2 region, you can go on holiday. The areas that are in tier 2 are Greater Manchester, Lancashire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North East, West Midlands, Nottingham, Leicester, Cheshire, and Warrington.
Note that you can go on holiday only with your household as you are not permitted to mix with other people and the maximum people will not be more than six.
According to the guidelines issued by the government, there is no explicit mention of the restriction on traveling from tier 2 to tier 1.
Although the government has urged people to live in their tires unless it is very urgent, traveling within or across these tiers is not banned. Even if you are staying in a hotel, you are not allowed to mix with people other than your family.
If you have to travel from tier 2 to tier 1, you should avoid riding public transport. Try to travel by car or personal vehicle, and if the distance is very short, you should prefer going on foot or by cycle. Travelling is convenient for you if you are living in tier 2 because restaurants and bars are open in such regions.
Can you go on holiday if you are in a tier 1 lockdown?
Tier 1 regions fall in the medium risk, and hence like tier 2 people, they can also travel on holiday. Under this tier, all businesses can operate in regular working hours, including pubs and restaurants with a 10 pm curfew.
It means if you want to travel from tier 2 region to tier 1 to attend the wedding of your friend, you can. However, the rule of six is applicable in tier 1 regions. Likewise, you can travel to the tier 2 region if you are living in tier 1.
However, note that you cannot mix with other households indoors. Although there has not been any ban on moving from within or across tiers, the government is advising against not to travel and from the higher tier regions.
It means you should avoid visiting tier 2 and 3 from tier 1. However, there are certain exceptions: traveling for work, education, caring responsibility, charitable institutions, volunteering, and accessing youth services. The government advises against traveling to tier 3 regions that include Liverpool.
Traveling rules for Wales and Scotland
With 946 daily cases in Wales, the situation does not seem to be out of control compared to 16,132 daily cases in England. According to the current regulation, traveling in and out of some parts of Welsh is permitted for essential cases.
It includes traveling for work when you cannot work from home. There are still certain restrictions on going on holiday. However, people in other areas that do not come under local restriction policy are free to travel anywhere.
They can move in or out of Welsh. They can make a holiday trip too. However, the Welsh government has to decide on a three-tier policy.
As far as it is about traveling from Scotland to England or vice versa, there is yet no rule. Some people from parts of England with tighter restrictions have already traveled to Scotland but only in case of necessity.
It means you can make a holiday trip to Scotland, but you cannot stay in someone’s house. During your trip, you can visit indoor hospitality venues, outdoor bars, restaurants, and cafes. However, note that their operation hours may be different.
Regardless of the tier you are in, the new policy does not ban on traveling abroad. However, you will have to adhere to the rule of that foreign land.
However, it is recommended not to travel unless it is essential if you belong to the tier 3 region. Now the question is what if you have booked a holiday trip.
You will not likely get a refund, and you will be under a problem if you have funded it with b.i.g. loans. Check the tier of the place you want to travel to.
If it is in the same tier as your local area, your holiday will stay unaffected. If the tier does not match your local area, it is suggested to put off your plan. Talk to the agent and convince them if they could put you on a new date. However, first, you should try to ask for a refund.
